Aftershot ("Aftershot," "we," "us") is a voice-first golf journaling app operated by Cloud99 Designs, LLC, based in Portland, Oregon. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using Aftershot, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information: name, email address, and authentication identifiers (e.g., Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In) when you create an account.
- Profile and preferences: handicap range, rounds-per-month estimate, equipment, home course, and other details you choose to share.
- Round content: scores, hole-by-hole data (putts, fairways hit, greens in regulation, club used, miss direction, lie, distance), tags, and free-text notes you add during or after a round.
- Voice recordings and transcripts: when you use voice capture, your audio is uploaded to our servers and converted to text. We retain both the audio recording and the transcript so you can review them and so we can extract round stats and generate insights. You can delete recordings from within the app at any time.
- Communications: messages you send to support or beta-feedback channels, and the email address and details you provide on our website signup form.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data: device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, crash logs, and aggregated usage events (e.g., screens viewed, features used). This helps us debug issues and improve the product.
- Location: if you grant permission, we use your approximate location to identify the course you are playing and pull course data. We do not track location in the background.
- Website analytics: our marketing site uses cookieless analytics (Vercel Analytics) that count page views without identifying individual visitors.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect payment-card details directly — if you subscribe, billing is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play and is governed by their terms. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- operate Aftershot and your account;
- transcribe your voice recordings and extract structured round data (scores, putts, tags) from them;
- generate AI-powered round summaries, coaching insights, and trend analysis based on the rounds you have logged;
- personalize the app to your handicap, equipment, and history;
- send you transactional and product emails (e.g., signup confirmation, beta-cohort invites). You can unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time;
- debug crashes, prevent abuse, and maintain the security and integrity of the service;
- comply with legal obligations.
3. AI processing
Aftershot is built around AI. To deliver core features, we send your audio and round content to specialized AI providers under contract:
- Speech-to-text transcription via OpenAI (Whisper). Your audio is sent to OpenAI for the sole purpose of returning a text transcript and is not used by OpenAI to train its models.
- Round summaries and coaching insights via Anthropic (Claude). Your round data is sent to Anthropic to generate the summary or insight you requested and is not used by Anthropic to train its models.
AI outputs are best-effort and may contain mistakes. They are informational only and are not coaching, medical, financial, or other professional advice.
4. Service providers
We use a small number of vetted service providers to operate the app. They process your information only to perform services for us and are bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and serverless functions.
- OpenAI — audio transcription (Whisper).
- Anthropic — round summaries and coaching insights (Claude).
- Apple and Google — authentication (Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In) and, if you subscribe, in-app purchase processing and receipts.
- Resend — transactional and product email delivery.
- Vercel — marketing-site hosting and cookieless analytics.
We may add or change service providers as the product evolves and will update this list when we do.
5. How we share information
We share your information only in these circumstances:
- With service providers as described above, strictly to operate the service.
- With your consent, for example if we add a feature that lets you share a round or insight with a coach or friend.
- For legal reasons, if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, property, or safety.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale — subject to the continued protection of your information under terms at least as protective as this policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or third-party AI training datasets.
6. Data retention and deletion
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can:
- Delete individual recordings, rounds, or notes from within the app at any time;
- Delete your account from the app settings or by emailing hello@aftershotgolf.com. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it (e.g., financial records, fraud prevention, legal obligations).
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@aftershotgolf.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
European Economic Area / United Kingdom residents: we process your information based on your consent (e.g., optional features), to perform our contract with you (e.g., providing the app you signed up for), and our legitimate interests (e.g., securing the service, improving the product).
8. Children's privacy
Aftershot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, scoped access controls, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised or you discover a security issue, contact hello@aftershotgolf.com.
10. International users
Aftershot is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of Aftershot after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
12. Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints about this policy can be sent to hello@aftershotgolf.com. For general questions, you can also reach us at hello@aftershotgolf.com.
